Arvada Police Investigating Officer-involved Shooting

Suspect vehicle opened fire on another vehicle prior to incident

(Arvada, CO) – The Arvada Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting after pursuing a vehicle that had fired upon another vehicle earlier in the evening. One suspect is deceased and the other is in custody.

The Arvada Police received a call at approximately 2 a.m. of shots fired. Four victims – 2 males, 2 females – had left a bar in Westminster after a verbal altercation with one of the two suspects. After leaving the bar, the victims were followed and the suspects fired at their vehicle several times, striking it. There were no injuries to the victims.

Responding officers located the suspect vehicles, initiated a pursuit and shots were fired. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. It was located again approximately 40 minutes later in the 8600 block of West 62nd Avenue. Both suspects were in the vehicle. One was deceased and the other was taken into custody.

“This is an active investigation and charges are pending,” said Commander Strate of the Arvada Police Department.

Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) is investigating the officer-involved shooting. As per standard operating procedure, the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation and there will be an internal review following the CIRT investigation to ensure officers followed department policies and procedures for use of force.
