Arvada Woman Approached by Bogus Truancy Officer
A 24-year-old Arvada woman was approached by a man driving a white SUV as she left a local business in the city.
The man indicated he was a Jeffco Public Schools Safety and Security
Truancy Officer. He asked to see the woman’s identification and later
asked her what she was doing out of school.
After returning the woman’s ID, the
man drove from the area.
He is described as a white male between
the ages of 60 and 65 with ‘salt and pepper’ hair.
There was also a magnetic sign on the
door of the vehicle indicating “Jeffco School Safety.”
In coordinating with officials at Jeffco
Public Schools they do not utilize truancy officers. They further state
all vehicles used by the school security group are grey Chevy Trailblazers
with full light bars, painted signage and government license plates.
The Arvada Police Department is investigating
the incident as impersonating a public servant, which would be a misdemeanor
charge if filed. It is unclear what the man’s intentions were.
Police recommend calling your local law
enforcement agency if a similar situation arises to have an officer
sent to the area for follow-up.
