School Resource Officer Don Bass-Arvada K-8
School Resource Officer Don Bass has worked at the Arvada Police Department since 1988.
While most of his experience has been with patrol, Officer Bass worked as a D.A.R.E. officer for three years where he spent a great amount of time in the classroom.
Officer Bass also provides instruction to members of the police department on various topics.
Office Bass becomes Arvada K-8 Resource Officer
In January of 2005, Officer Bass moved into his current assignment as the School Resource Officer for Arvada Middle School, now Arvada K-8.
One of Don’s endeavors is his continuing work with the police department’s "Kops and Kids Bike Program" which helps to provides bicycles to children of families who otherwise could not afford one.
Police Pals Program
In addition to his duties at Arvada K-8, SRO Bass runs an after-school program, "Police Pals." This grant-funded program is offered at two elementary schools.
In Police Pals, children have the
opportunity to experience fingerprinting, report writing, laser speed
enforcement, and visits with Animal Management officers and motorcycle officers.
Officer Bass's Other Activities with Youth
During the summer months, Officer Bass continues his youth-related activities. Don works in partnership with Red Rocks Community College for their summer youth college "Life Savers.”
This program, for middle school youth, provides a hands-on glimpse of a police officer’s job.
SRO Bass is also an instructor for the Arvada Police Department's "Teen Citizen's Police Academy" that works with high school-aged young adults.
