The Arvada Skate Park is considered the first phase of the development of the Gibbs West Community Park and follows directly the approved community park master plan. The development and planning of the skate park has involved considerable public input. The skate park development committee has worked for almost five years to complete the vision for the development of the skate park. Through the tireless fundraising efforts of the skate park committee and grants from the Colorado Lottery , Great Outdoors Colorado, Jefferson County Open Space, the Tony Hawk Foundation and other donors, the funding is now in place for the 2.1 million dollar skate park facility. The project will be funded with approximately 93% in grant and lottery funds and 7% city general fund monies.
The design for the skate park was completed by DHM Design Corporation, a local Landscape Architecture firm, and Team Pain Enterprises, a Florida company that specializes in the design and construction of skate parks. These firms have worked closely with city staff, skate park committee members, local skaters and Apex Park and Recreation District staff. Three public meetings resulted in the design for the skate park including landscaping, irrigation, lighting, site furniture, shade structures, decorative paving, walkways, and an entry road and small parking lot with the potential parking lot expansion.
The project is currently under construction and will be completed by early winter, 2012, so stay tuned! For additional information, please contact Mike Lee, Manager of Park and Urban Design at 720-898-7390.
