Academy Training

Candidates who are offered employment and are not certified as a Peace Officer in the State of Colorado will attend a police academy at the expense of the department at the position of Police Recruit. Recruits who fail any component of the academy training or the Colorado P.O.S.T. Board Certification Examinations will be dismissed from employment.

Mini Skills Program

Graduating candidates will return to Arvada Police Department for a two week class room orientation. The training will include skills necessary to assist candidates in transitioning from the academy setting to job specific duties at the Arvada Police Department..

Field Training Program

Certified candidates and graduating Police Recruits will then participate in the department's Orientation and Field Training Officer (FTO) Program. The program runs 14 weeks and involves candidates taking an active role in patrol duties while working a variey of shifts. Candidates will be assigned to separate training officers throughout the program, culminating in a two week observation by a plain clothes officer. The program includes daily evaluation of the new officer's performance.
