Citizen's Police Academy

Have you ever wanted to feel what it's like to be a police officer? If you're an Arvada resident, you have the opportunity to learn about a police officer's job by attending the department's Citizen Police Academy (CPA).

Two academy classes (spring and fall) are held each year. The classes meet on 10 consecutive Wednesdays in either a classroom setting or the field to provide attendees with some insight into many aspects of police work. One of the primary goals of the academy is to educate citizens on community problem solving, availability of police resources, law enforcement tools and community programs.

CPA instructors are police personnel who lecture, teach and allow hands-on participation in such areas as: high-risk vehicle stops, crime scene investigation, building searches and officer survival. Other topics covered include: internal affairs, media relations, preserving evidence, SWAT and dispatch. One of the most exciting aspects of the CPA is an optional ride-along with a police officer.
