Arvada Police Seek Suspect, Considered Armed and Dangerous
SUMMARY:
March 8, 2005
Arvada police are looking for a man who has at least eight warrants for his arrest to include burglary and aggravated auto theft and is considered armed and dangerous.
For the past two months, Arvada police have been trying to locate Richard Schmittel (DOB: 07/04/1960) for numerous felony warrants to include burglary, stalking, assault and protection order violations.
On March 6th, Schmittel apparently called a female victim and threatened to kill her.
Arvada police contacted Schmittel on March 8, 2005; however, the suspect fled the area in a red-colored Chrysler sedan. Police pursued Schmittel for several minutes and later ended the pursuit near I-76 and Pecos because the situation had become too dangers.

CHARGES FILED:
1st Degree Kidnapping, 1st Degree Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Motor, Vehicle Theft, 2nd Degree Burglary, Felony Menacing, Stalking/Harassment and Vehicular Eluding
FINAL DISPOSITION:
On July 28, 2006 Richard Schmittel was found guilty at trial on the following charges: 2nd Degree Kidnapping, 1st Degree Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, 2nd Degree Burglary, and Vehicular Eluding.
SENTENCING:
Richard Schmittel was sentenced to 99 years to Life
