Arvada Police Adopts New Plan for Taking Economic Crime Reports

Have you been a victim of an economic crime such as check forgery, unauthorized use of a financial transaction device, embezzlement or received counterfeit money? The Arvada Police Department has developed a procedure to help victims of these crimes collect information prior to making a police report.

"The Arvada Police Department understands your need to report the crime you have been a victim of as soon as possible," said Commander Ray Booras. "However, without complete and accurate information at the time the report is made, the reporting process is actually slowed down even further."

In the past, victims calling to report economic crimes to police oftentimes didn't have complete information, which resulted in additional phone calls and incomplete reports.

The Arvada Police Department has since created a plan to help victims of economic crimes prepare to make a report to police prior to calling the department.

Step 1:

Make certain you have notified pertinent financial institutions, such as your bank, credit card companies or any other merchants as appropriate for the crime.

Step 2:

Visit the Arvada Police Department's online Economic Crime Reporting Guide to locate the type of economic crime you need to report, and follow the instructions associated with that crime. If you are the victim of more than one of the crimes listed, you must collect the information required from each before the report will be accepted.

Please be aware that some financial institutions may not provide the information and/or documentation referenced in this guide without a police report. To help a victim through this process and upon request, the Arvada Police Department will make a written "information report" and provide a case report number with the understanding that there will not be a criminal investigation initiated until the information required pursuant to this policy is provided.

If you have been provided with an information report number, you must provide it when making your crime report.

Step 3:

Once you have all of the information requested you are ready to make an appointment. Call (720) 898-6649 to speak with a Police Service Technician who will schedule an appointment to take your report. At this appointment, bring the information and documentation to Ralston C.O.P.S., our satellite facility located at 9555 Ralston Road, Suite 101 once your appointment is set.

This telephone is answered Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. If no one is available when you call please leave your name, why you are calling and a telephone number where you can be reached during the days and hours listed above. If there is an after hours and weekend telephone number, please leave it as well. A representative from the police department will return your call and schedule an appointment.

Please contact the Police Service Technician at (720) 898-6649 or visit the Arvada Police web site and download the Economic Crime Reporting Guide (.pdf file format, 68KB) at for more information about reporting economic crimes.
