Coplink Goes Live
The Arvada Police Department is virtually connected with Jefferson county law enforcement agencies, and the city and county of Broomfield through the COPLINK program.
COPLINK is a secure, intranet-based system allowing officers to access crime information from the Arvada, Lakewood and Westminster, Wheat Ridge, Golden and Broomfield police departments as well as the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
“While Jeffco law enforcement agencies have traditionally communicated well, COPLINK provides crime-related information from several sources with just a few simple keystrokes on the computer within a matter of seconds,” said Deputy Chief Don Wick of the Arvada Police Department. “COPLINK is making a significant impact on our ability to solve crime and determine connections between criminal events.”
In a recent example, Arvada police officers entered a description about a bank robbery suspect labeled the Bleach Blonde Bandit. COPLINK provided information about possible matches, which led to the identification and arrest of the robbery suspect only a few days after the crime occurred.
COPLINK is being used in more than 130 jurisdictions from Boston to San Diego helping police departments fight crime and to improve community safety.
Through a National Institute of Justice grant, the University of Arizona created the COPLINK software. In 1998 Knowledge Computing Corporation commercialized the COPLINK solution.
