Arvada Woman Found in Lake

Arvada, CO – A 77-year-old Arvada woman was found in a private lake and pronounced dead at the scene in the 12700 block of West 60th Avenue just after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2008.

It’s believed the woman took her dog – a Sheltie – for a walk in the early afternoon. When the dog returned home and she did not, her husband called the police.

The woman was found in a private lake that is surrounded by homes near 60th Avenue and Ward Rd. Members of the Arvada Fire Protection District’s Ice Rescue Team went into the water and recovered the woman’s body.

Preliminary information indicates the victim may have gone onto the ice to retrieve her dog. There are NO indications the dog fell through the ice at any point.

Police believe this was an accident. There is no indication foul play is involved in this incident.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

Please Note: The family of the victim requests no contact from the media. They are asking that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time. The area surrounding the lake is private property.
