Animal Ace Receives Award
Caring and compassionate are two words that have been used to describe Becky Robison, supervisor of the Arvada Police Department’s Animal Management Unit during her 16 year career.
In addition to supervisor, Robison recently received another title as she was named Animal Control Officer of the Year by the State of Colorado in late April.
Robison has served as a mentor for her entire Animal Management staff and leads by example. She not only handles all of the unit’s administrative tasks, she continues to work on the street along side her fellow animal management officers (even on her scheduled days off if the need arises).
In the past nine years as supervisor of the Animal Management Unit, Robison has accomplished many important projects, a few of which include: Completed several re-writes of the City ordinances related to animal management issues; taught at the Arvada Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy; is a member of the Off-Leash Dog Park committee and revamped school programs that focuses on innovative ideas for children to learn animal etiquette in a fun manner along with many other successes.
In addition to her work in Arvada, Robison has also been very involved in the Table Mountain Animal Center (TMAC). She’s been associated with TMAC for more than 17 years doing everything in her power to make it the best shelter for the sake of the animals at the facility. In addition to her volunteer work, Robison served on the Board of Directors as President for seven years.
Robison was also named Arvada Police Department Civilian of the Year by the Clear Creek Optimist Club in April.
“Becky is an outstanding employee whose compassion is reflected in her actions toward the animals she assists on a daily basis,” said Chief Ron Sloan of the Arvada Police Department. “Her leadership skills as a supervisor are not only admired by those in our department, but other agencies as well.”
