American Bulldog Attacks 6-Year-Old Arvada Boy

A six-year-old Arvada boy was bit in the face by an American bulldog just after 5:00 p.m. in the 6200 block of Braun Cr. on Tuesday, January 25, 2005.

The father of the victim gave permission for the neighbor’s dog to be in the yard to play with their dog, a golden retriever. The father and victim went outside to get food off the grill when the dog attacked the 6-year-old child, severely biting the boy in the face and neck. The father was able to grab the dog - an American Bulldog weighing 80 lbs. - by the collar and hold him back from the child.

The 18-month-old dog attempted attack the father, at which time the father retrieved a knife from his pocket and stabbed the dog twice. The dog was let loose and the father attended to his son.

The 6-year-old was transported to Children’s Hospital where he was treated and later released.

The bulldog was taken to the Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital where he was euthanized by request of the owner.

The investigation is on-going by the Arvada Animal Management Unit at this time.

There have been no other calls associated with this American bulldog and the attack on the child was apparently unprovokedA six-year-old Arvada boy was bit in the face by an American bulldog just after 5:00 p.m. in the 6200 block of Braun Cr. on Tuesday, January 25, 2005.
