National Victims' Rights Week

Lace up your shoes and join hundreds of people in support of crime victims throughout Jefferson County at the 13th Annual Courage Walk on April 29, 2006 at the Jefferson County Courts and Administration Building (100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden Colorado).

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is slated for April 23 -29.

"This very special week is a time-honored tradition in America where we join together to recognize the devastating impact of crime on victims and communities and dedicate ourselves to helping victims and survivors of crimes," said Debbi Bromley, victim advocate with the Arvada Police Department.

The strength of individual victims and survivors has had a powerful impact on how the country views and treats crimes victims. By speaking out as individuals hurt by crime and through powerful grassroots groups, crime victims have shared their "power of the personal story" that gives a name and face to each and every crime.

"As an advocate with the Arvada Police Department I am honored to meet many people facing the most difficult challenges in their lives. I do believe I often come away with more than I give as I see such amazing courage and determination to heal. The Annual Courage Walk is a small way for me to honor the many wonderful survivors I meet, both adults and children," said Bromley.

The one mile walk is an event for the whole family to celebrate the courage of crime victims. This year's Courage Walk is dedicated to the survivors of child abuse and other crimes against children. The walking path is wheelchair accessible and the event will take place no matter what the weather is the day of the event.

"I want to encourage Arvada residents to participate in this year’s Courage Walk. It’s an amazing opportunity to learn about the strength demonstrated by countless crime victims," said Bromley.
