Cpl. Dave Everett Named Officer of Year by Local Optimist Group

The Lake Arbor Optimist Club named Corporal Dave Everett of the Arvada Police Department Officer of the Year for 2005.

With the department since 1971, Corporal Everett has worked in Patrol as an officer and a supervisor as well as a member of the department's Traffic Unit as a motorcycle officer. He recently served as the department’s training coordinator, an assignment he concluded after a five-year rotation.

As the department's training coordinator for the Arvada Police Department, Everett defined this extremely difficult and time-consuming position. As part of his duties, Everett coordinated, scheduled, facilitated and tracked the training for each and every member of the Arvada Police Department.

He was responsible for placing new officers into the police training academy and tracking their progress throughout their time in training, as well as planning and scheduling all of the training for the department's eight patrol teams.

The same is true of the Criminal Investigations Bureau personnel, the Communications Center, the Records Unit, the Animal Management staff and the Command Staff members.

In addition to his work as the Training Coordinator, Everett is a firearm’s instructor, coordinating the scheduling for the Rooney Range for all department firearms training and qualifications, teaches at the Jefferson County Regional Academy and the Reds Rocks Law Enforcement Academy and acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME for the Colorado POST Board on a myriad of issues involving firearms and training.

"Dave's scheduling and organization skills are superb," said Deputy Chief Don Wick of the Arvada Police Department. There are very few individuals who could maintain the type of filing and tracking system Dave has had to maintain for each and every member of the department for their training record."

Wick adds that when Dave has been given a new project to work on during his stint as the Training Coordinator he not only works on it but he tackles it with such zest and professionalism one would believe it was the only task he had assigned to him.

If all this were not enough, Everett began co-hosting duties on the department's award winning cable show Cop Talk three years ago. Once again, Dave's natural ability surfaced for the camera and he became an Arvada celebrity in the homes of Cop Talk fans all over the city.

"Dave is truly an exceptional and talented police officer," said Chief Ron Sloan. "There is no one more deserving of this award then Corporal Everett, especially as he ends his five year assignment in the training unit and returns to Patrol where I know he will continue to mentor officers and provide assistance wherever needed."
