Port of Entry/Arvada Police Team-Up for Vehicle Inspection

Five Arvada police traffic officers teamed-up with staff from the Colorado Port of Entry to conduct commercial vehicle inspections in Arvada on Thursday, May 26, from 7:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. near the intersection of West 58th Avenue and Garrison Street.

Port of Entry personnel performed 14 inspections and found 24 violations ranging from overweight trucks to violations for no tarps over loads.

Officer patrolling in the area contacted the drivers of the commercial vehicles and led them to the inspection site after determining probable cause. The staff from the state’s Port of Entry department then conducted the inspections of the vehicles.

“The motorcycle officers stopped the drivers of trucks in the city based on probable cause,” said Sgt. Larry Bennington of the Arvada Police Department who oversees the Traffic Unit. “The probable cause identified by a police officer ranged from traffic-related infractions to something visibly wrong with the truck.”

Some of the violations found by Port of Entry staff during the inspections included: overweight vehicles, brake infractions, driving with expired driver’s license and non-functional turn signals.
