Child Safety

The Community Safety Coordinator focuses on pro-active education and prevention strategies working primarily within the city's elementary schools.  The Coordinator represents the police department at various community events including the city's Open House, Special Olympics fund-raisers, YMCA's healthy Kids Fair, the Child Advocacy Center's Heroes Party and many others.  The Coordinator continually looks for ways to improve police services in the area of child safety and this past year implemented a "guest reader" program in the schools for kindergarden through third grade classes which encourages children to learn to read and maintain it for life.
