ARVADA, CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will hold auditions for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas on Monday, March 5 andTuesday, March 6, 2007at the EquityAuditionCenter in New York City. Denver auditions will be Monday, March 12 and Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at the ArvadaCenter. This production will be directed by Rod A. Lansberry, with Musical Director David Nehls and choreography by Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck. NYC casting by Gail Seay.
Denver Equity auditions will be held on March 12 from Open auditions will be held on March 12 from and March 13 from Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled by calling (720) 898-7200.
Experienced performers and dancers with strong acting and singing abilities are needed. Roles are available for woman, approximately 20 – 40 years old and men 20 – 40 years old. All ethnicities encouraged to audition. This is an equity production, although non-equity actors may audition. Actors should prepare a song from traditional Musical Theater that is appropriate to the period and style of this particular show. Please have proper sheet music, an accompanist will be provided. A headshot and resume are required. No scripts are available through the theater.
Rehearsals for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texasbegin on June 5, 2007. The show opens June 26 and runs through July 29, Tuesday through Saturday evenings with matinees on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays for a total of eight shows per week.

AMBER (ANGEL) – One of the Girls. 25 – 30. Hard-edged, used to the rougher side. From the city and has the background. Mezzo.
SHY – One of the Girls. 17 – 22. Definitely a country girl. Fresh, gawky, maybe a little tomboy-ish.
Totally inexperienced but has to run from abuse. Mezzo.
MONA STANGLEY – The Madam. 40+. Straight forward and business-like. Strong and capable of whatever needs to be taken care of. Realistic and takes life as it is. Has a softer side that she keeps hidden. Alto.
JEWEL – The Maid. 40+. Has been around and can handle anything. Quick and sharp. Completely competent and Mona’s support. Fun and brassy. Mezzo.
MELVIN P. THORPE – TV News Celeb. 30+. Big fish, little pond. Pompous and devious. Borders on fanatical. Bit of southern evangelist with comic ability. Physical comedy a plus. Baritone.
SHERIFF ED EARL DODD – Sheriff. 40+. Good ole boy to the max. Redneck but faces the reality of life. Will take on any problem if he has to but rather avoid the problem and enjoy life simple pleasures like fishing. Rough but a few soft edges. Baritone.
MAYOR RUFUS POINDEXTER – Mayor and car salesman. 40+. The town power with no power.Salesman underneath.
EDSEL MACKEY – Newspaper Editor. 30+. Smart, dry, very observant. Doesn’t show off his knowledge but is educated. Straight forward and somewhat of a misfit with the good ole boys.
DOATSY MAE – Waitress. 30+.Practical, normal woman. Has adjusted and accepted her life but secretly has a desire for more. Alto.
GOVERNOR – Governor of Texas. 40+. Big guy all the way around but not necessarily in physical size. Complete politician and character.
CJSCRUGGS – Local insurance salesman. 40+. Local good ole boy. Tenor.
MALE CHORUS – 20 – 30. Strong vocals and dance. Very athletic. All vocal ranges, all ethnicities.
FEMALE CHORUS – 20 – 40. Strong vocals and dance. All physical types but must possess sexy quality as well as cheerleader wholesomeness. All vocal ranges, all ethnicities.
