Arvada Liquor Authority Hands Down Suspensions

The City of Arvada's Liquor Licensing Authority reviewed violations of liquor licenses by some Arvada businesses in recent months.

Decisions by the Authority ranged from a fine to liquor license suspensions, depending upon the violation and the business' violation history.

"In August, liquor license compliance checks were conducted at 21 businesses in the city. Five of those business sold alcohol to a minor working with the police department." said Investigator Susan Gaetano of the Arvada Police Department. "We strive for zero violations. I plan to offer opportunities for server training as it relates to liquor license laws."

The following is an overview of the decisions handed down by the Arvada Liquor License Authority during meetings held in October and November.

Sale to a Minor

10-day suspension with three days active and seven held in abeyance for one year on condition of no further violations; all employees selling alcohol who haven't already done so must attend liquor training within 90 days.

Udi's at Grandview, 7600 Grandview Ave.

Sale to a Minor

10-day suspension with seven active days and three held in abeyance for one year on condition of no further violations; all employees selling alcohol who haven't already done so must attend liquor training within 90 days. Seven days previously held in abeyance must also be served for a total active suspension of 14 days.

Diamond Shamrock, 9989 W. 80th Ave.

Sale to a Minor

10-day suspension with three days active and seven held in abeyance for one year on condition of no further violations; all employees selling alcohol who haven't already done so must attend liquor training within 90 days.

Red Jack's Saloon, 5707 Old Wadsworth Blvd.

Sale to a Minor

24-day suspension with five active days and 19 held in abeyance for one year on condition of no further violations; all employees selling alcohol who haven't done so within the past two years must attend liquor training within 90 days. A copy of written policies and procedures must be submitted to the City Clerk's office within 30 days. Six days previously held in abeyance must also be served for a total active suspension of nine days.

Sale to a Minor

Licensee sold the business, no penalty assessed on condition that license transfer application is completed.

Failure to notify police of a crime on the premises (indecent exposure)

Fine paid in lieu of a three-day suspension.
