The City of Arvada, in collaboration with iCAST (International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology), is launching ResourceSmart Arvada, a program that will save homes and businesses 20-30% on their energy and water consumption.
ResourceSmart Arvada is a turn-key program that has successfully completed its pilot phase, targeting homes in Arvada’s Columbine neighborhood. Participating residents took advantage of the hassle-free, one-stop-shop approach that reduces energy and water use; increases comfort and safety; increases property values; provides access to rebates, incentives and financing options; creates local jobs; and reduces pollution. Arvada resident Nancy Voiland learned about ResourceSmart Arvada at a community event and scheduled her assessment through iCAST right away. “Everyone that I had contact with was very professional. The original request for assessment form was easy to fill out and scheduling the assessment was easy and convenient,” stated Voiland. “They were willing to work with my schedule. It was fun to ask questions about my home and watch and learn what was being done and why.”
The process starts with an energy assessment to identify any areas in the home that may be inefficient. Residents will receive a detailed report with costs, savings and payback details, so they can decide what improvements fit their needs. “Our goal is make this program as simple as possible in order for our residents to receive the potential benefits,” stated Jessica Prosser, Arvada’s Sustainability Coordinator.
Once participants decide what improvements they wish to implement, iCAST handles all the planning, including: selection of local sub-contractors, job supervision, quality checks, processing of eligible utility rebates and City incentives, access to financing options, invoicing and reporting to the City. Participants will see immediate savings that continue to grow each year. “I am happy that I had the assessment and would recommend it to anyone,” said Voiland. “It gave me a chance to find out about where home improvements can and should be made while allowing me to budget my finances to include these improvements in the future.”
