The Arvada Police are working with other metro area police agencies on a string of smash-and-grab burglaries throughout the Front Range. The thieves break into these establishments using a baseball bat after they have closed, then grab alcohol and cigarettes before running out. “They are in and out very quickly, knowing their window of opportunity is small” said Detective Jeff Johnson of the Arvada Police Department.
On January 3, a liquor store in Arvada was hit close to midnight. Fifteen minutes later, the burglars hit a store in Wheat Ridge. The night before, they burglarized a store in Westminster. Police believe these burglars are responsible for a total of 15 burglaries in the past month. “Because they have a very distinct style of clothing, we are hoping that someone recognizes them,” Johnson said.
