– The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and
’s Theatre Arts and Dance Department are in search of directors to participate in the Playwrights Showcase of the Western Region to be held at the
Aug. 13-15, 2004
From 20 to 27 directors are needed to stage approximately 25 plays that will be presented in the Showcase. Approximately 160 scripts were submitted and are currently being reviewed by 12 judges.Finalists will be selected by May 15. The categories include Shorts, One-Acts, Full-Lengths and Children’s plays. Each script is an unpublished, original work that has not had a professional equity production. The playwrights reside in one of the western states being represented (Ala., Ariz., Calif., Colo., Id., Kan., Mont., Nebr., Nev., N.M., N.D., Okla., Ore., S.D., Texas, Utah, Wash. and Wyo.).
In exchange for their participation, each director will have a biography in the event program, will receive free admission to one session of the Showcase, and will have the chance to meet and work with fellow theater artists in the
area. Directors will receive scripts by June 5 and will have the ability to assist in casting the play under their direction. There will then be several rehearsal periods before the performance of each play.

The Playwrights Showcase of the Western Region is a three-day event created to support the original work of playwrights living in 18 western states. Day and evening sessions of original play readings will be followed by critical discussions with a panel of nine theater luminaries and guest artists. Designed for playwrights, producers, directors, actors, educators and other interested people, the event is open to the general public. Attendees can purchase individual sessions for $15 each; one full day of sessions for $30; or the full three-day event for only $75. After May 30, session prices increase by $10 each and the full event price increases to $90. To register, call the
