How do I obtain underground utility locates?

To initiate a requests for underground utility locates (Gas, Electric, Cable, Phone, Water, Sewer and Stormwater), contact UNCC online or simply dial 811 at least 72 business hours before you plan on beginning your project. An operator will take the necessary information such as address and type of work to be done and then initiate a locate ticket with all of the proper underground utility jurisdictions.

How long will I have to wait to obtain locates?

Your underground utilities will be marked within 72 business hours from the day of your request unless it is an emergency. For emergencies, we do have personal on-call 24/7.

Do I have to be on-site while the utilities are located?

In most cases homeowners and residents do not have to be on-site. Your underground utilities will be marked in the areas using the information you have given.

Do I have to call for underground utility locates even if I am not planning on digging deep?

Colorado law requires that you make notification before you begin any size project from small, such as planting a tree or bush, to a big project such as pipe replacement or installation.

Keep in mind; you probably don’t want to plant a tree on top of your water or sewer service line. This can cause you big problems in the future when the tree/shrub is fully grown. So knowing where these underground utilities are, in advance, can help you make a good decision even if you’re not digging very deep!
