The Meeting was called to order at 6:04pm by Normalee Lee and she introduced Diana Denker, our new board member who replaced Gary Busch. Diana is originally from Nebraska and has been in Colorado for almost 15 years. She has a background in nursing and hospice work and is currently a full time Mom to two sons.

Secretary's Report - Maureen Tooher
The July 8, 2010 minutes were approved as amended. Under "Old Business" it was clarified that the Board suggested we might eliminate the plastic badge holders and not Normalee.
Treasurer's Report - Nancy Mayer
Nancy expressed concerns that there was a lot of CPAAA money tied up in apparel inventory (23 blue shirts alone). Deb Hamilton made a motion that orders be placed on an "as needed" basis and the motion was approved. Deb will try to cancel an order she recently placed.
Nancy submitted a current membership roster indicating 77 paid members. The 23 non-renewing members were dropped from the roster as agreed to at the last board meeting.
US Bank was the new bank Nancy suggested for CPAAA because it has many convenient branches and is open on Saturdays. She also suggested we make the change after the November Board elections to ensure signature cards are accurate and up-to-date.
Nancy submitted a financial report with an ending balance of $4400.59; the financial report was approved.
Chair's Report - Normalee Lee
The 7/21 CPA Teen lunch was a success thanks to Pat and Lloyd Ferguson and Quiznos at 88th and Wadsworth. It was suggested we send Quiznos a "thank you" for the very good service and pricing (note card was mailed on 8/23/10 by Maureen).
Normalee and Joan reported that 250 DNA kits were handed out at the Arvada Library on Friday, 7/30 for Book Award Day. New CPAAA volunteers showed up to support this event. Two Arvada Police Officers were in attendance at the library and photos were taken and given to Susan Medina.
The Shred-a-thon will be on Saturday, 10/16/10 from 8am to noon at the Arvada Center. Cmdr. James Keating is requesting volunteer assistance starting at 7am that morning. Normalee will communicate this request and details to the membership via e-mail and our next newsletter.
The Bike Rodeo is under review - budget issues - and the time frame is still not firm. Lloyd Ferguson was good enough to make a proto-type of a traffic sign. Fun and education are the primary goals. Cmdr. Kathy Foos is pursuing the use of the VW Bug that was used to promote child safety. Joan Campbell agreed to try and contact Jeanette Stack, who used to drive the VW as the Child Safety Coordinator. There is also a trailer that contains traffic cones, etc. that might be available for use at the Bike Rodeo.
Normalee asked for Event Coordinators for three upcoming events: the fall CPA that starts on 9/1 and ends on 11/3, car detailing on 9/18 and the Shred-a-thon on 10/16. Jentry Kendall stepped up to the plate for the car detail event and the Shred-a-thon. Normalee will send him the written procedures and sign up sheets for the car detailing. Deb Hamilton will check her calendar for previous commitments and will let Normalee know if she can coordinate the opening and closing activities for the fall CPA. Pat and Lloyd Ferguson agreed to act as back up if Deb can't help with those dates in September and November.
Vice Chair's Report - Lloyd Ferguson
Lloyd submitted a 2010 CPAAA Volunteer Hours report as of July. Diana suggested we use the volunteer sign-up sheets as a resource for future events.
PD Liaison Report - Officer Pat Claar (covering for Sgt. AJ DeAndrea)
Officer Claar had nothing new to report.
2011 National Conference Update - Nancy Mayer
The fundraising garage sale held the weekend of 8/7 brought in $700. Nancy expressed her gratitude to Judy Kuester and Marilyn Maring who were a big help in making it all happen.
Another fundraiser for the 2011 conference will be at Three Sons Italian Restaurant on Tuesday evening, 8/24 from 6 to 9pm where 10% of the proceeds will be donated to Jeffco CA3 for the May 2011 event.
National Opening & Closing Ceremony Update - Joan Campbell and Deb Hamilton
Joan didn't have anything too new to report. A "suggested" band, which usually charges $1,000 for this type of event would charge us $500, however, there is a DJ that would be FREE.
Bagpipers from the Denver Police will play at the opening ceremony and this would be in line with a tribute to the fallen officers.
Nancy Mayer's suggested "Issue Resolution Process" was reviewed and it was agreed that it should not be put in the by-laws. Jentry Kendall made a motion to accept the process as written and all approved. Normalee will put a short note in the newsletter stating that the process was adopted and a copy is available from any board member.
Nancy gave a short overview of the "Moments of Excellence" program that was used by AT&T and that she originally proposed at the 5/19/10 board meeting. It would be an informal "peer to peer" recognition that could be posted in our newsletter with a photo of the award recipient. Normalee asked for a name for the article and Maureen had suggested "Amazing Alumni" as one possibility.
Newsletter content and format were suggested as a future agenda items.
Joan Campbell checked into the ramifications of CPAAA spreading the word about Amendments 60 & 61 and Proposition 101 and found that it would be okay as individuals but not as an organization. A letter in our newsletter with a disclaimer was discussed and it was decided to wait until the "blue book" was available before going any further. Normalee distributed ballot issue position information from the League of Women Voters in CO for additional input/back up on the two amendments and one proposition.
Nancy Mayer and Maureen Tooher will get together and come up with guidelines for the November 11, 2010 CPAAA Board elections by the next meeting on 9/9.
All in attendance were against the late fee approach in getting members to pay dues on time. Nancy Mayer agreed to take a crack at the incentive approach and will discuss at a future board meeting.
Pat Ferguson talked about a picnic at Squires Park held by the Westminster CPAA and suggested Arvada have an alumni picnic next summer and she would coordinate it. Everyone thought that was a good idea.
Deb Hamilton made a motion that CPAAA donate $100.00 to the W. Michael Northey Foundation at the Arvada Police Department and all approved.
