The Arvada Police Department’s history reflects a tradition in excellence, with delivering quality service being the top priority of members of the department.
Founded in 1940s, the department began its operation with a chief and deputy chief. In addition to responding to calls for service, the duo also read utility meters and performed a myriad of other duties associated with this young department.
Arvada’s officers have always been held to high standards, first through a meticulous operations manual created by Chief William Beary in the 1960s, and later through national standards established by the Commission on Accreditation or Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Arvada Police Department was the first agency in Colorado to be accredited.
Arvada traditionally has enjoyed a relatively low crime rate compared to other Denver metro area cities. Members of the department continue to strive to reduce crime and the fear of crime through an innovative and progressive style of problem-solving policing.
Whether it be maintaining high standards, taking an innovative approach to community oriented policing or implementing the latest in technology, the Arvada Police Department is considered one of the finest law enforcement organizations in the nation.
