ARVADA, CO -- Grammy Award-winner Queen Ida, accompanied by her Zydeco band, returns to the Arvada Center’s outdoor amphitheater for her 19th season on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Queen Ida spices up the stage with her gritty, high-energy brand of Zydeco music. She blends Cajun, reggae, blues, calypso, jazz and other music into a dynamic performance that is backed by her band’s use of accordions, bass and rhythm guitars, drums and washboards.
Zydeco music is an energetic mixture of R&B, rock ‘n’ roll, reggae, blues, country-western and Caribbean music, and Queen Ida is considered its queen. Born in Lake Charles, La., Queen Ida is a natural Zydeco performer. Influenced by a rich Cajun background, Ida learned to play the accordion at an early age, but did not become a professional musician until her late forties. Queen Ida’s audience continues to grow, and each year brings new opportunities for the talented artist in film, television and on the concert stage. A review by The Dallas Morning News said, “If Queen Ida can’t move you, you can’t be moved!”
