Saturday, May 12th from 10 AM-3 PM at the Hills at Standley Lake Park (84th & Alkire)
On Saturday, May 12, Rose Roots, Arvada’s newest community garden along with Star Acre Farms; a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) will celebrate their grand opening. The event begins at 10:00 am with a grand opening presentation by members of the Arvada City Council, Sustain Arvada, and the Arvada Parks Advisory Committee. A plant sale by Star Acre Farms will follow, along with free educational talks by local gardeners, storytelling for children and a ladybug release. Tours of the garden and farm will take place at 10:30 am and at 1:30 pm and Star Acre Farms will present a draft horse demonstration. Food will be available for purchase from HarvestDenver and AikoPops food trucks.
The historic farmland once owned by the Rose family is now home to an eight-acre community agriculture project just south of Standley Lake in Arvada. When fully completed, the land will support 3.5 acres of community-supported agriculture (CSA), 2 acres of community garden plots, and nearly an acre of fruit orchard surrounded by a scenic neighborhood park.
Star Acre Farms is a small neighborhood farm in Arvada growing sustainably produced vegetables, herbs and flowers. They currently operate on two residential plots in northern Arvada and a 3.5 acre site in the new Hills at Standley Lake Park. Star Acre Farms produce can be found at the Arvada Farmer's Market, the Golden Farmer's Market, through CSA shares (weekly harvest shares picked up at the farm) and this summer at their new farm stand at 84th and Alkire. They also offer Food Bank Shares - a great way to give back to our local community by helping to provide fresh vegetables to those in need.
