Call for Entries Deadline March 15, 2004
ARVADA, CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and Red Rocks Community College’s Theatre Arts and Dance department are pleased to present the Playwrights Showcase of the Western Region at the Arvada Center on August 13-15, 2004.
“We are excited to collaborate with Red Rocks Community College’s Theatre and Dance department on this Showcase,” commented Arvada Center Performing Arts Director Kathy Kuehn. “We share the passion for plays that make the most of the theatrical medium.”
This unique partnership between a college and an arts center has been created to support the original work of playwrights living in the western states of:Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The three-day event is designed for playwrights, producers, directors, actors, educators and community members who are interested in sharing in an experience that celebrates contemporary theatre arts.Each day will include both day and evening sessions with original play readings followed by critical discussions led by a panel of national and local theatre luminaries.Among them will be Denver native and internationally recognized playwright and director, Steven Dietz, who has already confirmed his participation in the Showcase.Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops and network with their peers.
Play submissions for the Showcase are now being accepted through March 15, 2004.The categories include Shorts, One-Acts, Full-Lengths and, divergent from many other festivals, also include Children’s plays.Approximately 25 scripts will be selected for presentation in staged readings.Submissions must be original works that have not had professional productions by playwrights who reside in one of the western states being represented.Those selected will be notified by May 15, 2004.
