The Cities of Arvada and Boulder recently received the Alliance for Innovation’s Outstanding Achievement in Innovation Award for their shared “Xpress Consortium Project.” The Alliance honors members each year for their outstanding innovations, who received international recognition at the TLG Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, April 23, in Denver.
The City of Arvada began developing a custom “for government” Content Management System (CMS), called Xpress, using PHP, MySQL, and other open technologies years ago. The CMS allowed the City to provide easy content management options for its employees, which in turn allowed the citizens of Arvada to access high quality and reliable information online. The City of Boulder was interested in doing the same. In 2011, the Cities of Arvada and Boulder officially entered into the Xpress Consortium Partnership.
Over the years, each City has employed PHP developers, web designers and webmasters to help continually improve Xpress and provide a better quality of content to their citizens. The project has grown and evolved considerably over the years. It has become a scalable and dynamic solution that can support, with ease, a wide variety of sites from a single administrative interface.
The Alliance for Innovation promotes networking, research and collaboration through vast and varied localities - from Edmonton, AB, Canada, to states across the United States and celebrated 20 years this year serving as a resource for local governments to share their ideas and knowledge.
