Emergency Preparedness

To insure that you will receive notification of emergency situations such as evacuations, dangerous suspects in the area and critical safety information, please register your phone with the CodeRed Emergency Notification System. Land line telephones are automatically included in the CodeRED database. Cell phones must be registered through Jefferson County to be included in emergency notifications. To register your cell phone for emergency notifications only, log on to the CodeRED notification system at your911.net.

What happens if/when there is a disaster in Arvada?
When a disaster occurs, the Emergency Management Coordinator (EMC) meets with City staff to prioritize and develop strategies to handle the disaster incident. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated. The EOC becomes the center of communication and coordination of resources. The EMC coordinates all of the functions within the EOC.

The next time disaster strikes, you may not have much time to act. Prepare now for a sudden emergency. Learn how to protect yourself and cope with a disaster by planning ahead. Visit our Personal Readiness page to prepare yourself. The checklists will help you get started. Discuss the ideas with your family and prepare an emergency plan. Post the plan where everyone can see it -- on the refrigerator or bulletin board.

For additional information on Emergency Preparedness, link to the Federal, State, and County Emergency Preparedness sites listed on this page.

To report an emergency, call 9-1-1.

What is a disaster? A disaster can take many forms, including:
Major power outages
Wild fires and brush fires

The Emergency Management Coordinator works closely with City staff during a disaster. While the day-to-day operation of disaster preparedness and readiness lies with all City employees, disaster planning is coordinated with the City Emergency Manager.
